Original Apple Records promotional display created to promote George Harrison’s legendary 1970 triple album All Things Must Pass.

This rare retail store merchandiser was designed for record store counters to display cassette tapes and features the iconic George Harrison doorway image from the album artwork.

Unlike posters or promotional items sold to fans, these displays were distributed directly to record stores by Apple Records as part of the album’s marketing campaign.

Most were assembled, used briefly, and discarded after the promotion ended.

Surviving examples today are extremely rare.

The Story Behind This Display

This display comes from the archive of Jack Kunkle, a former Capitol Records distribution warehouse employee.

Beginning in the early 1970s, Jack worked at a Capitol Records warehouse where records, posters, and promotional materials were distributed to retailers. When the warehouse closed in the late 1980s, some promotional materials remained behind.

Jack preserved a number of these items for decades, including this unused Apple Records All Things Must Pass retail display.

There is a quiet irony to that discovery.

George Harrison titled the album All Things Must Pass as a reflection on time, change, and the impermanence of things.

More than fifty years later, this display surfaced when Jack—after a lifetime spent preserving these pieces of music history—was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and had to move into assisted living, making the difficult decision to part with his collection.

A printed copy of the newspaper article documenting the discovery of this collection will be included.

Supporting Parkinson’s Research

20% of the proceeds from this sale will be donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Collectors who acquire pieces from this archive are not only preserving a remarkable piece of Beatles-era history, but also helping support research aimed at improving the lives of those affected by Parkinson’s disease.

Never Assembled – Complete Example

This display remains unused and was never assembled.

All die-cut components remain flat and unfurled, with no tape residue or installation marks, confirming that the display was never used in a retail environment.

The cassette pockets remain perfectly flat with their original factory folds intact.

Included with the display:

  • Original Apple Records die-cut display components
  • George Harrison display header card
  • Original assembly instruction sheet
  • Original Apple Records shipping carton

Because it remained unused in storage, this piece represents exceptionally well-preserved new-old-stock Apple Records promotional material from the original 1970 marketing campaign.

Condition

Excellent vintage condition.

  • Display has never been assembled
  • All original components present
  • Graphics remain strong and vibrant
  • Original Apple Records shipping box included
  • Original assembly instructions included

Considering these displays were intended only for temporary store use, surviving examples in this condition are extremely difficult to find.

Collector Notes

Original Apple Records point-of-sale displays are among the rarest forms of Beatles-era memorabilia.

Unlike posters sold to fans, these displays were created specifically for record stores and were typically discarded after the promotion ended.

The survival of this example — unused, unassembled, and complete with its original shipping carton and instruction sheet — makes it an especially desirable collector artifact.

Examples of Apple Records retail displays rarely appear publicly and may go many years between sales.

Shipping

The display and original shipping box will be carefully packed with rigid collector-grade protection to ensure safe delivery.
